GIFTS @t Play (North Carolina)
GIFTS @t PLAY is a special place for children and their parents who homeschool one or more children with physical, developmental, medical, communication or learning challenges to come together and is a SUB-group of GIFTSNC.
The GIFTS @t PLAY - Piedmont Triad Area is a voluntary support group for homeschooling families with special needs children and their siblings. GIFTS @t PLAY is here to provide a support network for homeschoolers of special needs children. The bond that holds members of GIFTS @t PLAY together is their collective dedication to homeschooling as an educational alternative. GIFTS @t PLAY’s primary mission is to support members as they seek to live out this commitment on a daily basis. Assisting new homeschoolers is one of our top priorities. The first year of homeschooling provides unique challenges for families. GIFTS @t PLAY will help to provide support and information to first-year homeschoolers as they face these challenges. GIFTS @t PLAY is also part of a support system for the established homeschoolers. We strive to provide cooperative learning activities and socialization opportunities for both children and parents. Members are expected to be active in support group meetings and activities as often as possible. We focus a great deal on field trips and group activities that provide both education and fun. We also make sure our members are aware of educational and legislative information relative to homeschooling special needs children. Much of this information is given through our group’s private message forum on the GIFTSNC site. Membership is open to any person regardless of age, race, religious ideology, or gender, though everyone should understand that this is a Christian organization and Christian practices are observed.
